The importance of points

In addition to allowing the player to advance to higher racing levels, the points also determine position for each race. Players with higher points totals will begin at more advantages positions in the starting line. Pole position will be given to the player with the highest points total. For the past 40 years of F1 racing, 40% of all wins come from the pole position. Hence, it pays to be a winner.
